The mining industry has seen a growing inclusion of women in recent years, marking a new step toward gender equity in productive sectors traditionally dominated by men. Globally, countries such as Australia and Canada report female participation in mining at 15% and 17%, respectively. In Latin America, countries like Peru and Chile show figures around 7% and 8.5%.

In Argentina, the presence of women in mining has increased notably. According to data from ?Women in Mining Argentina,? in 2023 women represented 12.5% of the mining workforce, showing strong growth from the 7.5% recorded in 2007. This progress translates into the incorporation of over 4,500 women into the sector, with a year-on-year increase of 19.7% as of June 2023.

Why does female inclusion in mining bring significant benefits to the sector? First, because women have taken on key roles in operations, exploration, and heavy machinery handling?areas traditionally reserved for men. The gender pay gap and limited representation in leadership positions also highlight the need for policies and support programs that facilitate women's professional development in the sector.
