A New Era for Rodhio: Traceability, Innovation, and Originality in Every Gold Bar

Aldana Ricigliano, CEO of Bluemoon Group, explains how the Rodhio brand reimagined the history of gold bar numbering to create a system unlike any other in the world. Blending technology, traceability, and design, she details how a unique method combining numbers and letters was developed, redefining identification standards across the industry.
How did the idea of rethinking the numbering system for Rodhio?s gold bars come about?
In the global industry, gold bars are traditionally identified by five- to seven-digit sequential numeric series. That system, which Rodhio also used in the past, remains standard in most markets. However, as we advanced in implementing technology-driven processes focused on full traceability, we found it necessary to redefine our numbering to ensure greater precision, transparency, and control at every stage ? from the origin of the material to its final ownership by the consumer.
What role did traceability play in this new numbering system?
It was absolutely central. During the rebranding process, the first step was to design a system that would link each bar to its corresponding batch number. When the material arrives from the mines, it already comes with an assigned identification. From there, we conduct the necessary analyses in our laboratory and cross-check the results with the international lab that certifies us. All refined metal is then labeled with that same batch number. For example, LR0020 corresponds to batch number 20. Initially, we considered combining this number with a serial code, but the result was too long. For smaller bars, such as one-gram pieces, the available physical space did not allow for engraving such an extensive code. That led us to look for a more efficient and functional alternative.
And how did you arrive at the hexadecimal system you ultimately adopted?
After evaluating several alternatives, we explored the possibility of applying the hexadecimal system, which combines numbers and letters and significantly expands coding possibilities. Unlike the decimal system, which uses only the digits 0 through 9, the hexadecimal system incorporates alphabetic characters, greatly increasing the number of potential combinations. Thus, the sequence doesn?t simply continue from 9 to 10 ? it includes the letter A and subsequent alphanumeric combinations, reaching an identification capacity that far exceeds 999,999 possible variants. This structure allowed us to build a flexible, scalable system with long-term projection.
What advantages does this system offer compared to traditional numbering?
The main advantage lies in its scalability. The system allows us to grow without restrictions or dependence on numeric length. Moreover, it represents a qualitative leap in traceability and brand differentiation. We adopted it to strengthen Rodhio?s technological identity and consolidate its position as an innovative brand in the market. No other company in the sector has implemented a similar method. The new system embodies our spirit: precision, modernity, and a continuous focus on process improvement.
How does this innovation integrate with digital processes inside the plant?
The system is fully integrated into the plant?s digitalization process. Its implementation enables immediate material identification, prevents potential batch mix-ups, and optimizes internal data management. By replacing long numeric codes with more compact alphanumeric combinations, digital reading becomes faster and real-time traceability more efficient. Ultimately, it reinforces our commitment to clarity, efficiency, and the comprehensive modernization of all Rodhio operations.
What does this change mean for Rodhio and Bluemoon Group clients?
For our clients, this advancement represents an added guarantee of security and authenticity. Each gold bar carries a unique, verifiable identification linked to its origin, strengthening confidence in traceability and quality control. Likewise, the system reflects Rodhio and Bluemoon Group?s ongoing commitment to innovation. Our clients know that every product not only meets the highest international standards but also forms part of a new era in the gold industry ? one defined by technology, transparency, and excellence.
